Tonight

Tonight we will fade beneath
Cheshire-cat clouds where
diamonds dazzle
flash, fall and
flicker headlights into just a
heartbeat short of being alive.

Tonight the moon will scatter
pearls across our path and
flick shutters, developing
sepia shadows where strangers
stranger than us
trade sinister smiles and
stolen kisses.

Tonight the stars will hang
suspended like
ornaments on strings,
glistening reflections
in the swirling iridescence of
parking-lot puddles.
